A worked example
A pre-tax price of 1,000 baht becomes 1,070.00 baht with VAT added, and the tax added is 70.00 baht. The other way round: if the ticket says 1,070.00 baht including tax, the tax inside it is the same 70.00 baht.
How to use it
First decide whether the price in front of you already includes tax. If it does, pulling the tax out is not a straight multiplication: multiply the gross by the rate and divide by one plus the rate. That is where most people go wrong. If the price is pre-tax, multiply by the rate and add it back. Both directions round to two decimal places. The rate this page uses is not typed into the code — it is read from our published rate table, with the date it took effect and a link to the notice it comes from.
- Choose whether your price already includes VAT.
- Enter the amount.
- Read the pre-tax price, the tax and the gross, all three.

- How do I take VAT out of a price that already includes it?
- Multiply the gross by the rate and divide by one plus the rate — not a straight multiplication, which overstates the tax.
- Where does the rate on this page come from?
- From our own rate table, with the date it took effect and a link to the Revenue Department notice — both shown under the calculator.
- When does a shop have to register for VAT?
- The turnover threshold and the registration rules are not something we hold, so we will not answer for the Revenue Department. Check with them or with your accountant.
